Requirements
Culinary Arts - Professional Cook (PC)
Admission requirements
- submit proof of at least three (3) months of work experience related to the food service industry, together with a letter of reference from their employer
- submit proof of "C" in English 10, or ENGL 050, or ENGL 057; or assessment
- submit proof of “C+” in Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 10; or “C” in MATH 037; or assessment
Note: If you don't have one of these preferred math requirements, the
college will accept a “C” in Foundations
of Math and Pre-calculus 10, or Principles
of Math 10, or Applications of Math 11, or
MATH 053.
or
- completed GED with a minimum average standard score of 500 and a minimum standard score of 500 for both Math and English
and
- Food Safe Level 1
Upgrading programs are available.
For PC2:
- successfully complete PC1, or an assessment by the Chair of Culinary Arts*
For PC3:
- successfully complete PC2, or an assessment by the Chair of Culinary Arts*
- submit a college medical form at the time of paying fees. (If training is interrupted for more than three years, a second health certificate is required.)
* If an assessment is required by the Chair of Culinary Arts, please ensure that you prepare a detailed resume and obtain reference letters prior to making an appointment with the Chair.
*If you completed the program prior to September 2009, please contact Gilbert Noussitou (250-370-3779) or noussito@camosun.ca, Department Chair for a transition plan.
Participation requirements
- have a medical exam confirming good general health
- attend an orientation scheduled by Camosun College
Completion requirements
- minimum overall grade of "COM" is required to obtain each Certificate in Culinary Arts - Professional Cook
