As a Community Support & Education Assistant student you will learn to effectively support and enhance the quality of life of citizens with developmental disabilities in our community. Your classroom and practicum A Community Support Worker & Education Assistant Instructorexperiences will prepare you for work in school, home, work, and other community settings where people with developmental disabilities learn, work, live and socialize.

94% of Community Support & Education Assistant students felt their jobs related to their studiesThrough the 3 semesters of the Community Support & Education Assistant program, you will acquire the skills and knowledge needed to promote and advocate for the meaningful participation of people with disabilities in all aspects of community life. Program courses are designed so that upon graduation you will be able to apply your knowledge of community supports, holistic well being, professionalism, and disability issues to your work with families, in individualized arrangements, and human service organizations.

Graduates are respected professionals and have access to a variety of employment opportunities throughout the province. Opportunities exist in schools as special education assistants, in individualized home arrangements, with family and community centres and with human service organizations.

Completion of this certificate will provide you with transfer credit towards Year 2 of the Community, Family and Child Studies Diploma. It also provides you with transfer credit to some degree programs (e.g. School of Child and Youth Care and Social Work), at other BC institutions such as the University of Victoria and Malaspina University College. Consult the advising centre of the University of your choice or check with a Camosun College Academic Advisor for details.

The full-time program starts in September and runs through to June (10 months) at the Lansdowne Campus. A part-time study option is also available with September and January start dates.
