What You’ll Learn

CST no longer offered as of September 2016

The Computer Systems Technician and Technology programs have been updated, and are no longer being offered in this format.

Students interested in computer systems can now apply to the new Information and Computer Systems program.

Preparing you for your career

You'll learn life-long skills and knowledge required to pursue a career in computing or computer systems in a competent and responsible way.

What to expect

This technical, rigorous program is offered full-time. You can complete the certificate in nine months and with an additional year you can earn the diploma. Both credentials can be completed with an internship designation.

As a full-time student in the Computer Science Department, you will spend 20-25 hours in class each week with an additional four to five hours of homework every day, including weekends. Before you begin this program you should be comfortable with word processing and basic file management.

Year 1

Your first year will provide you with knowledge of operating systems, Java, computer/network operations and an introduction to software engineering.

Year 2

As you continue your studies toward the Diploma in Computer Systems Technology, you'll develop skills in system analysis and design, computer graphics programming and you will implement an applied project.

Internship Designation

An internship gives you paid work experience and a taste of what the IT industry has to offer. To obtain the internship designation, you must complete at least one three-month work term. Find out more by contacting Co-operative Education and Career Services.
