Web programmers. Systems technologists. Software engineers. Game designers.
The Computer Systems Technology program gives you the foundational skills and knowledge you’ll need for these professional careers in the world of computing!
The program is composed of a Computer Systems Technician Certificate, lasting nine months, and a subsequent nine months for the Computer Systems Technology Diploma. As a graduate you’ll be sought after in the fast moving and ever changing industry of computing. As a certificate graduate you may continue on to receive your diploma, or seek immediate employment as a computer support or information technologist.
Options are available for students in either program to complete an Internship, contact the Co-operative Education office to learn more about the Internship Designation.
In the technology diploma, you'll focus on providing computer solutions to specific real-world problems. The principles taught include problem definition, diagnosis, analysis, design, selection and implementation, decision-making and maintenance, and improvement of hardware and software solutions. You'll learn how to be effective in a large enterprise, and self-sufficient in smaller enterprises.
We also have department initiated projects to promote the world of computing to youths and those with disabilities.
The Computer Science Department works closely with industry to provide a number of different paths for our graduates to take after they graduate.
Our students work in fields related to information technology and the implementation and operation of computer systems, integrated into the high tech field within Victoria and beyond. Proving their aptitude for creative solutions, some of our graduates have gone on to be employed at industry leading companies such as Zynga, DivX, Kixeye, CGI, VMware, IBM, Apple, PML, etc.
Is Computer Systems Technology right for you?

The ever-changing field of computing requires you to have excellent problem-solving skills as well as good communication and the ability to work effectively in teams. Your success is dependant on your work ethic, interest in technology and your ability to learn how to use computers to develop creative solutions.
"I came into the Computer Systems Technology program with ZERO programming experience. The faculty went the extra mile to help me succeed, and were readily available to help me meet my goals. The program's focus on relevant software development helped me succeed in the real world. I now enjoy a rewarding career, using the skills I learned at Camosun, working as a software developer for the Federal Government."
