Camosun Comic Arts Festival 2020

Admission is free | April 19 | Young Building, 3rd Floor

Hosted by the Comics & Graphic Novels Program at Camosun College

The festival is a celebration of the artistic and literary impact of comics and graphic novels created locally, nationally, and internationally. Conference attendees will hear, see, and experience the process of visual storytelling, and discuss the medium with the students, teachers, professional creators, publishers, and other fans. #camosuncollegecomics

Unique in the Canadian post-secondary school system, the one year certificate program in Comics & Graphic Novels was created for students who have a desire to learn the language of visual storytelling. The program focuses on skills-based training for six career paths, which include creation (both in print and online) of comic books, comic strips, web comics, graphic novels, storyboards, and edutainment comics.

Don't miss the "Artist's Alley"

The public is invited to attend CCAF, the 8th annual Camosun Comic Arts Festival hosted by the Comics & Graphic Novels program at Camosun College. The one-day event will be held from noon until 5pm on Sunday, April 19, 2020. This event is located on the third floor of the Young building at Lansdowne campus. Admission is free. 

The festival is a celebration of the artistic and literary impact of comics and graphic novels created locally, nationally, and internationally. Conference attendees will hear, see, and experience the process of visual storytelling, and discuss the medium with the students, teachers, professional creators, publishers, and other fans.

A highlight of the event will be the “Artists Alley” showcasing the publications and artwork created by the 15 students in this year’s Comics & Graphic Novels program. A sneak preview of artist work can be found on the CCAF Facebook page. Professional guest mentors in attendance include Gareth GaudinKaren GillmoreJanine JohnstonSam LoganGlen MullalyRenee NaultJess Pollard, Alex Steacy, and Stanley Berneche.

Guest speaker this year is Kate Beaton, the creator of the comic strip Hark! A Vagrant which was published from 2007-2018. She won the 2011 Ignatz Award for Outstanding Online Comic.

Attendees will have the opportunity to make their own visual stories in a “comics jam” and drop-in drawing with cosplay models. Comics, prints, and original artwork by both students and pros will be available for sale.
