Chinese courses at Camosun are offered at a slower pace (4 hours/week) and course credits are transferable to most B.C. universities. Upon completion of Chinese 100 and 101, students will master Mandarin sounds (pin yin), understand basic grammatical structures and hold basic conversations in Chinese. They will also recognize and write about 300-400 Chinese characters. Upon completion of 200/201, students will be able to describe and discuss certain topics in Chinese, read and write short passages and recognize and write about 800-1000 Chinese characters.

Programs
Diploma in Arts and Science Studies
The Diploma in Arts and Science Studies, is a new credential from the School of Arts and Science. You will need to complete 20 university transfer courses (60 credits). At least 14 courses must be offered by the School of Arts and Science. This gives you the flexibility and freedom to study courses of your choosing. More info...
Best Stage Performance
The Humanities Department is pleased to announce that Chinese language student, Luke Kowalski, won the "Best Stage Performance" category at the Chinese language singing competition in Vancouver. The competition features students from Camosun College, UVic, UBC and SFU.
Luke started learning Chinese this fall and he is in Chinese 100. He takes his study of Chinese seriously and participates in all class activities with great enthusiasm. He was the class "captain" for the Chinese singing group and helped his classmates with their singing practice prior to the preliminary competition.
Luke and one other student won 2nd and 3rd place in the preliminary singing contest at UVic and they went to Vancouver (representing Vancouver Island) for the final contest.
