Come out, meet your instructors and learn more about Carpentry
Can't stand the thought of a desk job? Enjoy working with your hands? Want to get started in the "hot" construction industry?
The Carpentry Foundation program (formerly Entry Level Trades) course is aimed at those students interested in initial entry into the carpentry trade. You're provided with a variety of levels of training to provide you with the skills and theory necessary to become competent in all aspects of the carpentry trade.
The program deals primarily with the residential construction end of the industry but will also introduce students to some aspects of the heavy construction industry and joinery trade. The course is six months long and divided into two halves, concrete foundation and formwork and wood framing for walls, roofs, and stairs.
The Carpentry Foundation program is a full-time course offered at the Interurban campus and starts four times a year in January, April, July and October.
Upon completion of the program you'll have the skills to enter various construction fields or seek a Carpentry apprenticeship. The Carpentry apprenticeship program is four years long with students attending classes in both theoretical and practical aspects of the Carpentry trade for six (6) weeks each year and leads to interprovincial certification.
Camosun also offers various weekend and evening Carpentry skills and upgrading courses through Continuing Education.
