Carpentry Foundation
Admission requirements
- submit proof of a letter grade of “C” or higher in English 11, or English 12, or EFP 12, or TPC 12; or ENGL 058; or ENGL 092 and ENGL 094; or ENGL
092 and ENGL 096; or ENGL 140; or ELD 092 and ELD 094; or ELD 097; or assessment; - *submit proof of a letter grade of “C” in Apprenticeship and Workplace Math 11, or MATH 038; or.assessment
or - successful completion of the Trades Assessment Test.
* Note: If a student does not have one of these preferred math requirements, the college will accept a “C” in Foundations of Math 11, or Pre-calculus 11, or Applications of Math 11, or Principles of Math 11, or MATH 073.
If you lack any of the required grade levels for admission, we offer upgrading courses in a variety of formats to meet your needs.
Participation requirements
- Students should be in good physical health and have good hand-eye coordination and manual dexterity.
- Students will be exposed to the same conditions as professional carpenters including outdoor work in a variety of weathers and may be required to work longer than normal college hours.
- The student is ultimately responsible for his/her learning and meeting the requirements of the course and/or program.. All students are encouraged to communicate issues concerning their course and program with their instructor, Chair/Program Leader, respectively. The School encourages full participation and active learning by attending all scheduled classes.
- All trades programs have a mandatory attendance requirement. A student who misses three days in a class will be required to withdraw from the course. In exceptional cases, the Chair may recommend an exemption to this policy. The final decision on withdrawal from a program will rest with the Dean.
Completion requirements
- A minimum grade of 70% ("COM") overall is required to obtain a Certificate in Carpentry Foundation.
