Business Awards and Scholarships
The School of Business, in partnership with Camosun College Foundation, offer a series of awards/scholarships to outstanding students of our school. These awards are presented annually in November of each year.
School of Business students are eligible if they meet all the criteria set out for individual awards and have attended classes at least one semester during the period November 1 to October 30. Successful candidates will be notified of their award/scholarship by mail in early Fall. If your phone number or address has changed, please update with Enrolment Services.
Awards & Scholarship Criteria
Accounting
Applications available in September 2010
- Accounting Faculty Award #1
Awarded to an accounting student(s) who shows outstanding determination and perseverance. - Accounting Faculty Award #2
Awarded to the most dedicated student volunteer in the “Students Helping Students Complete Income Tax Returns” project. - Bob Brown Award in Accounting
Awarded to a Business Administration Accounting diploma graduate who has achieved high academic standing, and who developed and used networking skills to improve relations between Camosun and his/her community. - Certified Management Accountants Society of BC Award
Awarded to an accounting student who is pursuing a CMA designation, possesses all 15 CMA prerequisite course requirements, has a final GPA in the top quartile, and proven academic excellence in advance management accounting, Acct 420. - CGA Academic Excellence Scholarship
Awarded to a student who has completed the third year of the Bachelor of Business Administration degree program. - CGA Continuing Education Scholarship
Awarded to a 2009 graduate, or a student in the final courses, of the accounting BBA or Professional Accounting certificate program, who has achieved high academic standards and is intending to pursue a CGA designation. This is a credit toward CGA tuition fees. - CGA Award in Accounting

Awarded to an accounting student with satisfactory academic standing who has exhibited leadership, teamwork and determination, and who helps his/her community through voluntary efforts. Preference will be given to students in Year 3 or beyond. - Don Lindsay Award in Accounting
Awarded to an Accounting BBA student who has achieved high academic standing, and who applied his/her accounting knowledge to areas of personal interest, such as sports, farming, politics, benefitting him/herself and others. - Doug Murray Award in Accounting
Awarded to an Accounting Diploma, Accounting BBA, or Professional Accounting certificate student who has achieved high academic standing in accounting and finance courses, and who has demonstrated a collaborative attitude toward learning, through activities such as informal tutoring and study group activities. - Estelle Inman Award in Accounting
Awarded to an Accounting student who has actively participated in course work, demonstrated determination and a marked improvement in academic standing from Year 1 to Year 2 in the accounting diploma program. - Jared Hill Memorial Award in Accounting
Awarded to an Accounting student who shows encouragement and empathy for his or her fellow students, empowering them to be better. - Jon Somers Award in Accounting
Awarded to an Accounting BBA student who has achieved high academic excellence in Management Cost Accounting, Acct 220, 320, 420, while committed to at least two other activities such as personal growth, volunteer effort, care giving, employment. - Keith Prowse Memorial Entrance Accounting Award
Awarded to a student entering the accounting program. Preference will be given to students who are currently in Term 3 of the Accounting Diploma, and who have achieved high academic standing in Terms 1 and 2.
Mantell Dickson Blades Wiseman Chartered Accountants Award in Accounting
Awarded to a Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting Major student with proven academic excellence in financial accounting, auditing and taxation: Acct 210, 211, 310, 380; and who still needs at least eight courses to complete the BBA.- Norgaard Neale Camden Award
Awarded to a Professional Accounting certificate student who has solid grades and has clearly demonstrated a high level of integrity. - Peter McNeil Award in Accounting
Awarded to an Accounting Diploma, Accounting BBA, or Professional Accounting certificate student who has achieved high academic in Financial Accounting, ACCT 110, 111, 210, 211and 310, while committed to at least two other activities such as personal growth, volunteer effort, care giving, employment. - The John Hadfield Memorial Scholarship
Awarded to an accounting student intending to pursue a CA designation with proven academic excellence in at least four 300 or 400 level accounting courses. - Victoria Chartered Accountants Association Award
Awarded to a student graduating from the Business Administration, Accounting Co-operative Education program with the highest GPA leading to CGA, CMA, or CA. - Victoria Chartered Accountants Association Award - Best GPA Award
Awarded to an accounting student intending to pursue a CA designation with proven academic excellence in financial accounting and auditing: Acct 210, 211, 220, 310, 380.
Applied Business Technology

Presented to one or more students enrolled in the Legal Office Assistant Program, for academic excellence combined with demonstrated leadership abilities. - Don and Joyce Brake Award
Presented to one or more Applied Business Technology students who have excelled in their chosen specialty. - EDS Canada Award
Presented to a student graduating from an Applied Business Technology program who has shown enthusiasm and drive, exhibited commitment and a positive attitude toward working, and demonstrated the ability to succeed in his/her chosen career. - Hutcheson & Co. Chartered Accountants Co-op Award for Office Administration
Presented to a student graduating from the Office Administration program who has achieved excellence in all the requirements for a certificate with Co-operative Education designation. - Information and Records Management Association of Victoria Award
Presented to an Applied Business Technology student for academic excellence in Records Management. - Jones, Emery, Hargreaves, Swan Lawyers Real Estate Conveyancing Award
Presented to a graduate of the Applied Business Technology Legal Office Assistant Program who has shown particular strength in Real Estate Conveyancing. - Medical Office Assistant Award
Presented to the student who achieved the highest academic standing and contributed to the class in a positive manner. - Real Estate Foundation of BC Award
Presented to one or more students who has demonstrated team work and a good attitude along with good academic standing in the Real Estate Law and Conveyancing course. - Sylvia Clarke/Joan Island Award
Presented to a graduate of an Applied Business Technology program who has shown perseverance in reaching his/her education goals and who has shown concern for his/her fellow students. - Victoria Legal Secretaries Association Award
Presented to a graduate of the Legal Office Assistant Certificate program who has demonstrated academic excellence, an eagerness to learn, a professional and ethical attitude, and an overall well-roundedness.
Co-operative Education

Presented to a student graduating from the Business or Public Administration Co-operative Education program who has shown enthusiasm and drive, exhibited commitment and a positive attitude toward working, and demonstrated the ability to succeed in his/her chosen career. - Grant Thornton Chartered Accountants Co-op Academic Award
Presented to a student graduating from the Business or Public Administration Co-operative Education program completing all course requirements for a diploma and with the highest grade point average throughout the two-year program. - Suburban Motors Sales Award
Presented to a student graduating from the Business or Public Administration Co-operative Education program who has shown enthusiasm and drive, exhibited commitment and a positive attitude toward working, and demonstrated the ability to succeed in his/her chosen career. - Yvonne Thompson Page Student of the Year Award (School of Business)
This award recognizes outstanding Co-operative Education students at Camosun College.

Presented to two or more students returning to continue second year studies in School of Business diploma program who have demonstrated commitment and high academic standings.

Hospitality, Tourism & Golf Management

Presented to the Golf Management program ELITE students with the highest grade point average upon completion of second year. - Canadian Hospitality Foundations Awards
Presented to a 1st year student returning to 2nd year who has a strong grade point average, is involved in the industry, and is exceptionally suited to hospitality management. - Derrick Siska Memorial Award
Presented to one female and one male student entering the Golf Management program who are interested in the field of golf and have demonstrated community involvement. - Dunlop House Restaurant Award
Presented to a graduate of the Hotel and Restaurant Management program who is a leader among his or her peers, has strong management skills, a good grade point average and has the potential to be successful in industry. - Fairmont Hotels - Empress Hotel Award
Presented to a graduating student in Hotel and Restaurant Management who has exhibited his/her commitment and contributed his/her time to the hotel industry through part-time work experience and extra curricular activities while maintaining a high academic standing. - Hotel and Restaurant Co-op Award
Presented to a Hotel and Restaurant Management graduate who has exemplified the purpose and principles of Co-operative Education by showing enthusiasm and drive, exhibiting commitment and a positive attitude toward work, and demonstrating the ability to succeed in a career in the hospitality industry. - Hotel and Restaurant Student Society Award
Selected by his/her classmates, these students work hard, are motivated and show enthusiasm in the Hotel and Restaurant Management Program. - Hotel Association of Greater Victoria Award
Presented to the Hotel and Restaurant Management program graduate with the top grade point average. - Hotel Association of Greater Victoria Co-op Education Award
Presented to a student who, in the 1st year of the Hotel and Restaurant Management program, exemplified the purpose and principles of Co-operative Education by showing enthusiasm, drive, exhibiting commitment and a positive attitude toward work and demonstrating the ability to succeed in the hospitality industry. - Hotel Grand Pacific Award
Presented to a student in Hotel and Restaurant Management who has completed first year and one Co-op work term. The student will have an interest and background in the hotel field. He or she will be enthusiastic and motivated with a high grade point average and will do well in the hotel sector. - Island Professional Event Network Award
Presented to the Tourism Management student who has shown academic excellence and a desire and ability to pursue a career in event or conference management. - Jencess-Active Network Award
Presented to a Golf Management student who has the highest grade point average in the two golf operations courses using the Active Network golf course management software. - Middle Beach Lodge Award in Hotel and Restaurant Management
Presented to the second year Hotel and Restaurant Management student with a strong GPA who has demonstrated keen leadership and team work skills. - The Mark Scott Memorial Award
One or more students demonstrating excellence in the Hotel and Restaurant Management, Tourism, and Travel programs, as selected by faculty. - The Tourism Victoria Award
Presented to the graduating student who has achieved the highest marks in the Tourism Management program. - Victoria Guest Services Network Award of Excellence
Presented to a student in the Tourism Management option at Camosun College who exemplifies the spirit, enthusiasm and proven ability to provide excellence in customer service within the hospitality industry.
Indigenous Business Leadership

Presented to students with satisfactory academic standing, bringing community involvement experience and demonstrating capacity to become a strong indigenous business leader. - Meyers Norris Penny Leadership Award
Awarded to students with satisfactory academic standing, having community volunteer experience and demonstrating capacity to become strong indigenous business leaders. - The Devlin Gailus Award
Presented to a student with indigenous leadership qualities, strong connection to the indigenous community and a commitment to succeeding in a business management program.
Marketing, Management & Public Administration

- Human Resource Management Leadership Award
Presented to the Bachelor of Business Administration, Human Resource Management & Leadership graduate with the highest grade point average in years 3 and 4. - James Rowlands Greater Victoria Human Resource Management Association Award
Presented to the Bachelor of Business Administration, Human Resource Management & Leadership student enrolled in 3rd or 4th year, who has exhibited his/her commitment and contributed his/her time to the HR community through part-time work experience or extra curricular activities while maintaining a high academic standing, as chosen by faculty. - Project Management Institute Award of Excellence
Presented to the Project Management students in a Bachelor of Business Administration degree program who have demonstrated excellence in academic standing in Business 427 (Project Management), leadership in in-class discussions and activities, engagement with projects in the community through voluntary efforts, and concerted interest in on-going professional development toward the project management professional (PMP) designation. - Sales and Marketing Executives of Victoria - Marketing Excellence Award
Presented to the Marketing graduate with the highest average in five courses taken in the third semester of the Marketing option. - The Hugh Chamberlain Memorial Scholarship in Human Resource Management Studies
Presented to a Human Resource Management graduate with the highest overall marks in selected HRM courses. - Vancouver Island - Local Government Management Association - Public Administration Award
Presented to the graduate with the highest GPA in a Public Administration program.
