BBA Applied Work Experience Requirements

Applied and relevant work experience

Graduation from the Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting Major requires successful completion of 40 academic courses plus completion of 420 hours of applied and relevant work experience.

This requirement may be satisfied by completing ACCT 499 Unsupervised ACCT Work Experience or BUS 101 and BUS 201 through Co-operative Education. Please contact the Program Leader, upon completion of year 2 to discuss/clarify your options.

If you are choosing ACCT 499 non-co-op work experience you are advised to take the following steps:

The ACCT 499 is a self-directed work experience that provides students an opportunity to apply and expand accounting academic knowledge while employed in paid or volunteer positions and/or projects. It is the responsibility of the student to secure their ACCT 499 position or combination of projects (paid or volunteer).

STEP 1
Contact the Program Leader for the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting Major to determine whether the work that has been completed or is being proposed will satisfy the requirement for relevant and applied work experience and meets (will meet) the minimum requirement of ACCT 499 (420 hours).

STEP 2
Complete the ACCT 499 Job Description Student Report form.

  1. Attach the company’s job description to the application form, ensuring it is provided on organizational letterhead and signed by your supervisor.
  2. Identify your position(s) as full-time or part-time and briefly describe the main duties you performed. Please use your own words to describe the position(s), and type responses using grammatically correct sentences.
  3. Provide your signature and your supervisor’s signature verifying the information provided is accurate.

STEP 3
Complete the ACCT 499 Learning Outcomes Student Report (docx or writeable pdf) form. Describe your success in achieving each ACCT 499 learning outcome.

STEP 4
Submit both completed forms to your Program Leader for final approval. Once approved, a Prior Learning Assessment Application form will be completed and forwarded to Student Services on your behalf. You will be contacted for payment of tuition fees, and upon receipt of fees, a “Complete” grade for ACCT 499 will be entered on your student transcript.

Current Students: If you started this program prior to 2014 please contact an Academic Advisor for assistance with making course selections that will support your eligibility for the program credential.
