BBA Applied Work Experience Requirements

Applied and relevant work experience

Graduation from the Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting Major requires successful completion of 40 academic courses plus completion of applied and relevant work experience.

UNDER REVIEW: BBA Applied Work Experience Requirement


The BBA applied work experience requirement is currently under review across all BBA programs (Accounting, Human Resource Management & Leadership, and Marketing).  Please see this FAQ message for detailed information.  An update will be provided by the School of Business at the conclusion of the review.  If you have any questions, please contact your Program Leader or business@camosun.ca.

This requirement may be satisfied by completing ONE of the following pathways:

Co-operative Education - BUS 101 & BUS 201

To be eligible to participate in Internship or Co-operative Education, you will need to successfully complete 8 first year courses, with a cumulative GPA of 3.0, and complete the workshop series COOP WEP, prior to the first work term (Internship) and all subsequent work terms (Co-op).

Internship Designation

In addition to regular program content, you will need to complete a minimum of one (1) work term:

Note A student who does not successfully complete three (3) Co-operative Work Experience courses will not qualify for a Co-operative Education Designation; however, the student will qualify for an Internship Designation if they have successfully completed a minimum of one (1) Co-operative Work Experience Course.

Co-operative Education Designation

In addition to regular program content, you will need to complete a minimum of three (3) work terms:

Note A student who does not successfully complete three (3) Co-operative Work Experience courses will not qualify for a Co-operative Education Designation; however, the student will qualify for an Internship Designation if they have successfully completed a minimum of one (1) Co-operative Work Experience Course.

BBA Work Term Requirement

Graduation from the Bachelor of Business Administration, Accounting Major requires successful completion of 40 academic courses plus completion of 420 hours of applied and relevant work experience. This requirement may be satisfied by completing ACCT 499 or BUS 101 and BUS 201. Students should consult with the BBA Program Leader for additional information.

Current Students: If you started this program prior to 2014 please contact an Academic Advisor for assistance with making course selections that will support your eligibility for the program credential.

Self-directed Work Experience - ACCT 499

If you are choosing ACCT 499 non-co-op work experience you are advised to take the following steps:

Step 1

Program Leader for the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting Major

Step 2

Complete the ACCT 499 Job Description Student Report form.

  1. Attach the company’s job description to the application form, ensuring it is provided on organizational letterhead and signed by your supervisor.
  2. Identify your position(s) as full-time or part-time and briefly describe the main duties you performed. Please use your own words to describe the position(s), and type responses using grammatically correct sentences.
  3. Provide your signature and your supervisor’s signature verifying the information provided is accurate.

Step 3

Complete the ACCT 499 Learning Outcomes Student Report (docx or writeable pdf) form. Describe your success in achieving each ACCT 499 learning outcome.

Step 4

Submit both completed forms to your Program Leader for final approval. Once approved, a Prior Learning Assessment Application form will be completed and forwarded to the Registar's Office on your behalf. You will be contacted for payment of tuition fees, and upon receipt of fees, a “Complete” grade for ACCT 499 will be entered on your student transcript.
