Alumni Profile - Darren Duffey
Bachelor of Business Administration - HR Management & Leadership
Darren is a Human Resources Assistant at Camosun College, a position he was eager to apply for a few months after graduation. He completed the BBA in HR Management & Leadership from Camosun in 2008, one of the two first graduates of the program.
Although location and cost were the main driving factors behind why he chose Camosun, he quickly determined that the learning environment was more conducive to his style. He appreciated the wealth of experience that the teachers and other students brought to class discussions. “As adults, we all learn differently. I’ve always been better at learning through a hands-on approach, rather than being lectured.”
Darren began to understand that in order to get a job, regardless of the field, you need to get some real life experience. “So many jobs require you to have a level of experience that is difficult to find even with education. These programs give you an advantage over a theory based accreditation.”
Another reason Darren found Camosun invaluable is the connections he make with his peers. He believes that because the other students will also be entering the same field, it gives you a great network which can further your career. He has kept in touch with a lot of the friends he met at Camosun, whom have all found careers in HR.
Darren will always fondly remember the time he spent at Camosun, which is why he was so happy that the opportunity arose to work here.
