Asia-Pacific Studies

Course offerings for Social Sciences are available for viewing for Spring, Fall and Winter 2012-2013. Offerings are subject to change; instructors, number of sections and timetables are still to be determined. Please see the Camosun calendar for course descriptions and prerequisites.

Currently all eyes are focused on China, Japan and Southeast Asia. With the global shift of economic and political power to Asia and in light of the multicultural changes underway in Canada, to understand the dynamics of Asia is critical for any student.

Camosun offers you a range of integrated courses that highlight the cultures, history, geography and contemporary political economy of the Asia-Pacific region. Advantages to taking Asia-Pacific Studies include providing an understanding of the multicultural character of Canada and its relationship to Asia and the Pacific. You'll learn to write, research and critically analyze issues about the Asia-Pacific region, particularly within a global sphere. This diverse range of course offerings equip you with knowledge and competencies that have application for a wide range of employment and career opportunities related to the Pacific Rim. Whether it is pursuing a career at home or abroad in business, government or with a non-governmental organization, undertaking Asia-Pacific Studies, particularly an Associate of Arts Degree in Asia-Pacific Studies, will enhance one's career opportunities.

Asia-Pacific Studies programs

It's new: Diploma in Arts and Science Studies

The Diploma in Arts and Science Studies, is a new credential from the School of Arts and Science. You will need to complete 20 university transfer courses (60 credits). At least 14 courses must be offered by the School of Arts and Science. This gives you the flexibility and freedom to study courses of your choosing. More info...

University Transfer

Explore your interests! University Transfer has the flexibility to allow you to take courses part-time or full-time with courses starting throughout the year. This is an excellent choice if you've not yet decided if Asia-Pacific Studies will be your focus. Your course can be transferred to an Associate of Arts Degree but it also allows you to do upgrading courses at the same time. More information...
