Archaeological Field Assistant

Certificate in Archaeological Field Assistant

spearsBritish Columbia's rich history can be traced back 12,000 years through oral tradition and archaeological sites. Over 90% of the archaeology work done in British Columbia is completed by contract archaeologists in compliance with provincial heritage legislation. Students interested in working as a crew member on these field projects or First Nations community members interested in participating in cultural resource management within their traditional territories, will find this intensive program useful for learning the applied skills required to perform the job. The Archaeology Field Assistant Program will teach a diverse set of skills, such as using survey equipment, recording sites, basic artifact identification, and you will learn how to identify and document culturally modified trees. Students are also introduced to provincial heritage legislation, First Nations traditional heritage management and perspectives of archaeology. If you intend to pursue a career as an archaeologist, this program will complement your Associate Degree, Bachelor of Arts, or graduate degrees in Anthropology.
