Horticulture Technician ACE IT Program

The Horticulture Technician Program, located at Royal Roads University, will prepare you with 10 months of training in the horticulture industry areas of botany, greenhouse management, landscape design and business practices (for future self employment). Employment opportunities may be found in landscape maintenance, parks, golf courses, retail garden outlets, greenhouses, silviculture, wholesale nurseries and plant propagation. In this career program, secondary students participate in the Camosun College 10 month Foundation program; receive a college certificate and complete level 1 apprenticeship technical training.

The program
- is for Grade 11 and 12 students, and adult learners under 19 working towards graduation
- combines secondary and post secondary programming and provides dual credit
- provides 48 high school credits, college certification and concurrent registration
Get started
Step 1: Preparation
- complete prerequisite courses English 10 at 60% and Math 10 A or P at 60% or AWM at 65%
- 30 hours minimum related work experience or job shadow
- work with school counselor to register in the program submitting application package and evidence of prerequisites
- application criteria includes portfolio submission
- qualified students are required to complete an interview and program orientation prior to acceptance into the program.
Step 2: Secondary School program
- Work with secondary school career counsellor to register and submit evidence of prerequisites.
Step 3: College program @ Camosun’s Interurban campus
- 10 month program starting July annually
- offered at Royal Roads University Campus in Colwood
- includes work experience placements with local employers
Upon completion: You will receive level 1 apprenticeship technical training credit and a certificate of completion from the College.
