The Health Care Assistant (HCA) Program, will prepare you as a frontline care provider in long term care facilities and a variety of community settings. During this 24 week program at Camosun's Lansdowne Campus you'll acquire the skills, knowledge and values to provide personal care to the elderly and those facing other health challenges.
The program
- is for Grade 11 and 12 students, and some adult learners eligible for funding
- provides up to 24 high school credits, college HCA certification and concurrent registration

Step 1: Preparation & Prerequisites
- English 12 with 60% or Assessment (65% for students laddering to LPN)
- Recommended 120 hours Work Experience with a Health Care Assistant employer
- The following must be successfully completed before a practicum begins: Food Safe Certificate, TB Test, Criminal Record Check, and Standard First Aid with CPR Level B or C.
Step 2: Secondary School program
This program can be completed entirely at Camosun under the college’s HCA Program, or students may begin their program through family studies courses at the following schools:
- Belmont Secondary
- Cowichan Secondary
- Frances Kelsey Secondary
- Victoria High
- WestShore Center
Step 3: College program @ Camosun’s Interurban campus
- Apply: Contact your school’s Career Counselling Department for a Lync Program Application package. An interview and program orientation are part of the application process.
- Upon completion: you'll receive a Health Care Assistant Certificate from Camosun and up to 24 secondary school graduation credits.
Costs
- $36.41 Application Fee
- $100 Uniform (approx.)
- $250 Books (approx.)
- Tuition fees are sponsored by the school district for students earning graduation credit
- Students are responsible to cover the costs of books and personal equipment
Note: Ancillary fees are waived therefore registration does not include a bus pass
