Professional Cook Level 1 ACE IT program

The Professional Cook Level 1 partnership program prepares you for employment in family restaurants, bistros, hotels and large institutions such as hospitals, logging camps, cruise ships or schools in food preparation. In this career program, you'll complete Professional Cook level 1 technical training.
Professional Cook Level 1 certification requirements:
- 1000 documented work experience hours under the direction of a certified cook or chef
- complete technical training at 70%
- 70% achievement on the ITA theory and practical certification examinations

The program
- is for Grade 11 and 12 students, and adult learners under 19 working towards graduation
- combines secondary and post secondary programming and provides dual credit
- includes a 6 week apprenticeship technical training option or a 28 week Professional Cook Level 1 foundation program option
- depending on length of the college program provides 8-32 high school credits, industry training credit for level 1 apprenticeship technical training, college certification and concurrent registration

Step 1: Preparation
- Option 1 Apprentices (6 week program) - Students are required to complete prior to registration:
- a Secondary School Cook Training program at one of the recommended schools see Step 2
- Math 10 principles or Math 11 applications and English 10 at 60%
- at least 400 on the job work experience hours under the direction of a trained Cook
- Option 2 Professional Cook Level 1 Foundation Program (28 week program):
- requires Math 10 principles or Math 11 applications and English 10 at 60%
- at least 3 months relevant related Work experience
- Food Safe Level 1
Step 2: Secondary School program
Enrol and complete cook/culinary arts courses at one of the following schools:
- Edward Milne Community
- Esquimalt High
- Gulf Island Secondary
- Frances Kelsey Community
- Spectrum Community
- Stelly’s Secondary
Step 3: College program @ Camosun’s Interurban campus
- Option 1
Complete Step 2 and the application process to register for the apprenticeship class. - Option 2
Complete the application process to register for the Foundation program
- Upon completion:
- If you meet all requitements you'll receive Professional Cook level 1 apprenticeship technical training credit and Level 1 Certificate of Qualification,
- If you meet part of the requirements you'll be provided with next step information upon completion of the program.

- $36.41 Application Fee
- $300 Books (approx.)

Note: Ancillary Fees are waived therefore registration does not include a bus pass.
