What is online learning like?
Online learning is very convenient for busy people. In the e-Work program, you can choose your own study times, work at your own pace, and take courses that may not be available in your local community.
Because you are working alone, online learning can be challenging, so the e-Work courses are designed to be motivating, and to lead you to success.
Where will I study and access the computer and internet?
At home: Make sure you have a good chair and desk, with good lighting. Avoid areas that have distractions such as TV or phone. Let your family and friends know that you need time and space for studying.
At work: Plan with your supervisor, so you have permission to do the courses while you are at work. Make sure you have access to a workstation in a place free from distraction from co-workers. Also, make sure you have a place to store materials between the study sessions. Let your co-workers know when and where you are studying.
At a learning centre, library or another community resource: Plan your bookings in advance to ensure you have access when you need it. If you do not have a computer, you may be able to access one for free in your community. Check the listings of Community Access Program sites in BC (PDF).
Do I have enough time to do an online course?
To complete an e-Work course successfully, you need to manage your time very well. Your instructor will check in with you, but you are responsible for meeting the deadlines and completing the courses. Think about when you will have free time for studying, and add your study times to your personal/work calendar.
