e-Work: Online English Language Training for the Workplace
If you are a recent immigrant to BC and are interested in refining your English language skills for the workplace, you may be interested in the e-Work courses.
What is e-Work?
e-Work is a series of 21 online, short courses designed for immigrants in BC, both employed and not yet employed, to improve their job-related English language skills. The online courses are delivered electronically, so both the instructor and the students use computers. The courses are at a high intermediate to advanced English language proficiency level or Canadian Language Benchmarks (CLB) 6-9, and the course topics are relevant to a variety of workplaces. Each course is from 16-24 hours long.
From September 2009 to February 2010 the e-Work courses were piloted with approximately 100 participants from around BC, through Camosun College’s online learning management system called Desire2Learn.
Camosun anticipates offering the e-Work courses starting in Fall 2010. Please check back at this site for updates.
Who are the instructors?
The e-Work courses are taught by Camosun College English Language Development instructors who have specific expertise in teaching English for the Workplace to high intermediate and advanced level students. They are familiar with workplace communication and have experience teaching online courses.
The instructors will help you improve your English in many ways, by:
- providing quick feedback on your assignments and assessments,
- answering your questions,
- commenting on posts on discussion boards,
- checking in with you to see how things are going,
- asking for your feedback on the course.
In addition, instructors will be available at set times throughout the week for drop-in discussion, as well as by appointment.
