SOCW 211 Introduction to Social Work

This course is an introduction to knowledge, skills and value base for generalist social work practice that focuses on connecting personal problems to public issues. Informal helping and self-help groups are introduced, and the partnership of the client in any change effort is emphasized.

SOCW 212 Social Welfare in Canada

This course presents an analysis of the history and structure of major social policies and programs in Canada with a focus on connecting personal problems to public issues. The course also reviews the social service and human rights responses to social problems, in particular problems of poverty and economic disadvantage.
