FIN 110 Fundamentals of Finance

This course will provide the student with an introductory exposure to ﬁnancial mathematics and ﬁnancial concepts. Topics include: determination of interest rates, the time value of money, annuities, ﬁnancing alternatives and capital budgeting. The course is a foundation course in any subsequent study of business ﬁnance. (T)

Prerequisite(s): "C" in English 12, or EFP 12, or TPC 12; or ENGL 092 and ENGL 094; or ENGL 092 and ENGL 096; or ENGL 140; or ELD 092 and ELD 094; or ELD 097; or assessment; and "C" in Principles of Math 11, or Applications of Math 12, or Foundations of Math 11, or Pre-calculus 11; or "C+" in MATH 072; or assessment.

FIN 210 Corporate Finance

This course focuses on the goals and functions of ﬁnancial management, the acquisition of short-term and long-term funds, and the evaluation of investment performance. Particular attention is devoted to current assets, capital structure, ﬁnancial instruments, cash budgeting, leasing, and ﬁnancial analysis. (T)

FIN 220 Investments 1

This course is an introduction to Canadian investment and capital markets. Topics will include the analysis of ﬁnancial statements and other published data, the role of an investment dealer and a study of investment instruments: equities, options, rights, warrants and mutual funds. (T)

FIN 221 Investments 2

This is an advanced course in investment instruments emphasizing the building and management of portfolios. Topics will include equities, mutual funds and derivatives as well as portfolio theory, portfolio management and the assessment of risk. (T)

FIN 230 Financial Planning 1

This is an introduction to Personal Financial Planning and the issues necessary to develop and achieve long-term personal ﬁnancial goals. Topics will include money management, credit worthiness, real estate, investments, insurance, wills and estate planning. (T)

FIN 231 Financial Planning 2

This is an advanced course in personal ﬁnancial planning. Students will develop comprehensive ﬁnancial plans taking tax consequences into account. Topics will include goal setting, retirement planning, insurable and non-insurable risk, tax shelters and debt management.

FIN 310 Advanced Finance

This ﬁnance course provides an in-depth study of issues and tools that will assist ﬁnancial managers in making decisions. Topics include capital budgeting under uncertainty, long term sources of funds, capital structure, dividend policy, ﬁnancing and investment decisions, derivatives, risk management and strategic issues in ﬁnance.
