Homestay Program

We’re pleased that you are considering participating in the Camosun College International Homestay program. It’s a great way to build friendships with interesting people from other parts of the world and to learn about different cultures. Homestay gives international students a chance to practice their English and gives local families a chance to explore the world without leaving home.

Camosun College carefully selects hosts and matches them to student applicants in order to ensure the most comfortable placement. Hosts welcome students into their family life, and students are encouraged to participate as much as they can in order to make the most of their placement.

In a homestay, students are provided with three meals a day, their own room, and the help and support of the host family with their studies and integration into the community.

Fees:

• The Accommodation Fee is $750 per month, or $25 per night for extra nights. Students also pay a Homestay Service/Application Fee of $225.
• Long-term students’ initial fees (one month plus the Service Fee, totaling $975) are payable to Camosun College and are non-refundable. After the first month, students pay their host families $750/month directly.

Length of Placement:

• Placements for short term programs are generally for 2 – 4 weeks, and can occur throughout the year but are most commonly in summer or in February/March.
• Long–term placements are generally for 4 – 6 months. Either students or hosts are obligated to give one month written notice (in advance) when they wish to end a placement.
