Camosun College International welcomes over 120 new international students from more than 25 different countries this September. We asked our new students what brought them to Camosun, as well as their future plans and their first impressions of Victoria:
I chose Camosun because I knew you could offer me the best education in order to make my transfer to UVic. I heard about Camosun because my sister lives in Victoria and she told me it was better to go to Camosun first and then get ready to go to university. My goals are to do the best I can at Camosun and successfully finish business.
Pedro Alain Diaz – Peru
I was choosing between technology programs at Camosun and another college and it fell on Camosun due to its location, the program being offered for a more extensive period (ie. more credibility) and because the program has a more general focus than the other college which was better for me.
Stefan Martensson – Sweden
Camosun College came to my high school in Monterrey, and I learned about the transfer program to UVic so I applied. I did not really know what to expect Victoria to be like. I expected a smaller city, like a town. I did not expect people to be so nice, nor to be so helpful. I also did not expect Victoria to be so beautiful.
Armando Lozano Marchand – Mexico
I know somebody who lives in Victoria, so it was easy to decide where to go. I searched about Victoria on the internet, Wikipedia, and there was Camosun College on the page! I actually was about to go to another university, but they said they could not offer the Business Tourism major which I wanted to be in. I have a friend who is a graduate of Camosun’s Business Tourism program and she suggested I apply.
Asami Watanabe – Japan
My agency told me about Camosun College – that I can study here two years and transfer to UVic to continue my studies – so I chose Camosun to be my first place to study.
Ni Cai – China
Camosun College is a new partner institution of my university – the University of Applied Sciences – where I’m studying “International Logistics Management”. I chose Camosun because I’m interested in other cultures, and of course I want to improve my English. Victoria is exactly what I expected, a beautiful city between mountains, lakes and the coast.
Thomas Prameshuber – Austria
I went to an education fair at the Canadian Embassy in Tokyo last fall and I found Camosun College there. I came here because the Winter Olympics will be held in Vancouver and I want to see the Games next year.
Masao Soeda – Japan
