Camosun College International welcomed a senior delegation from the Miyagi Advanced Dental Hygienist College (MADH) of Sendai, Japan on Tuesday, September 22. President Naoto Yoshida, Associate Director Dr Masao Miyasato and Senior Instructor Yoko Sato of MADH visited Camosun to meet with counterparts and tour Camosun’s facilities as the two institutions move towards establishing an MOU which would include opportunities for student exchanges in Dental Hygiene, faculty visits and other initiatives.

This new partnership is the result of a referral by MADH’s existing exchange partner, Vancouver Community College (VCC). VCC and MADH had a successful exchange partnership for the last 6 years until recent changes at VCC required MADH to move their program. “We were honoured when Vancouver Community College (VCC) approached Camosun College about the possibility of our institution assuming the role of partner in the existing exchange program with MADH”, said Baldev Pooni, Vice President, Education & Student Services at Camosun College. “We look forward to developing this new relationship and the opportunities it offers to further internationalize our Dental Hygiene Program”. The MADH partnership strengthens the international component of Camosun’s dental hygiene program, which has already established international exchange and field school linkages in Sweden and Mexico.
Camosun will host the entire MADH second year class of 62 students for a two day visit to our dental hygiene program in March 2010. This will be a cultural exchange related to the practice of dental hygiene and the role of the hygienist in Japan and Canada.
