On Monday, September 28, Camosun College was notified of its selection by Instituto Industriel e Comercial 7 de Setembro de Xai-Xai (IICXX) in Mozambique, and the Association of Canadian Community Colleges (ACCC) as the Canadian partner for a project within the Education for Employment CIDA funded project. CCI will receive $300,000 in funding to facilitate the two-year project. Camosun’s School of Trades & Technology will play a lead role in developing new competency based training programs in the constructions trades at IICXX.
“This was truly a collaborative proposal process,” said Dawn Sutherland, CCI Director. “Our team worked hard to execute a strong response to ACCC’s unique program requirements, which put us on the shortlist.” CCI’s Dr James Paulson, International Programs & Projects and Dr Tom Roemer, Dean of Trades & Technology, successfully presented Camosun’s proposal in Ottawa.

“We are very excited to have this opportunity to take the expertise within our School of Trades & Technology to assist in a development project in another part of the world,” said Roemer. CCI and Trades & Technology are now focusing on budget details and preparing the team to go to Xai Xai, just north of Maputo on Mozambique’s south coast, to develop the two-year work plan.
