Richard Gale

Dr. Richard Gale Director, Camosun Innovates


Dr. Gale comes to Camosun Innovates after most recently serving as the Vice President, Academic at Capilano University and the founding Director of Mount Royal University’s Institute for the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. Prior to that he was a researcher and faculty member at Douglas College and a Senior Scholar at the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching at Stanford. Dr. Gale holds a PhD in Theatre Arts with his Bachelor’s Degree in Liberal Studies.


Jamie VanDenbossche Associate Director, Camosun Innovates


Jamie VanDenbossche is the Associate Director of Camosun Innovates (formerly Camosun Applied Research & Innovation), working to position it as a leader in applied research in British Columbia and nationally. Jamie is also Chair of the British Columbia Applied Research & Innovation Network (BCARIN).


Sean McConkey Manager, Camosun Technology Access Centre


Sean McConkey joined Camosun Innovates in September 2017. Sean completed his BASc at the University of Waterloo in 1992 in mechanical engineering, with courses in toxicology, ecology, and environmental engineering. Since then, he has worked in a variety of industry sectors including energy, aviation, consulting, manufacturing, and education, and his roles in each have been equally varied.

Rich Burman

Rich Burman Student Interaction Lead, Technology Access Centre

BSc PT, Dip Tech (Mechanical)

Rich serves as the Applied Research Coordinator for the Technology Access Centre.

In addition to impeccable organizational skills, Rich is also an expert in mechanical design, human physiology, and Solidworks.

With an extensive background in physiotherapy he is the defacto expert for all projects involving human-to-machine interfaces, assistive technologies, and ergonomic consideration.

When not at Camosun, he can be found on the sidelines of the local lacrosse fields coaching the kids.

Ben Costin

Ben Costin Applied Research Technologist I, Technology Access Centre

Dip Tech (Mechanical)

Ben is often involved with any project relating to equipment design and development, specifically outdoor or sport equipment. He has a keen design sense and is very detail oriented.

Ben is an outdoor enthusiast with a wealth of experience in both the biking and outdoor industries.

Ben is passionate about the edge that humanity can gain through technology, and spends most of his free time mountain biking, trail running, free-diving, or training.

Dana Lajeunesse

Dana Lajeunesse Applied Research Technologist I, Technology Access Centre

Dip Tech (Mechanical)

Dana has a background in Mechanical Engineering Technology and is a very capable CNC machine programmer/operator.

He is also experienced in industry relations and education, and brings a valuable mix of skills to the team.

Jake Quigley

Jake Quigley Applied Research Technologist I, Technology Access Centre

Dip Tech (Mechanical)

Jake is our composites specialist at TAC. He has a very strong composite materials background and found his passion for this field while working in the surfboard manufacturing and marine repair industry.

He is a recent graduate from the Mechanical Engineering Technology Program at Camosun.

Jake enjoys being in the outdoors and is often surfing, hiking, and rock climbing in his spare time.

Sergio Asebey Solares

Sergio Asebey Solares Applied Research Technologist II, Technology Access Centre

Bachelors Degree in Automation Engineering (mechatronic systems)

Sergio is our resident expert in toolpathing and CNC machining.

Originally from Bolivia, Sergio moved to Mexico at the age of 21 and studied in Automation Engineering. He has worked in a variety of fields, ranging from Structural Steel Drafting to CNC machining. Sergio is currently the primary operator for our waterjet and CNC equipment.

In his spare time, Sergio likes to relax by playing racket ball and working on cars.

Heather Sproule

Heather Sproule Assistant to the Director, Camosun Innovates

A graduate of both Camosun and UVic, Heather has provided administrative support to post-secondary education in BC for over thirty years.

Heather’s current focus at the Centre is budget management, financial reporting and board support.

Cheryle Wilson

Cheryle Wilson Operations Assistant, Camosun Innovates

Cheryle is the first point of contact at the Technology Access Centre.

She comes to the Centre with more than twenty-eight years of experience providing administrative support to BC's public post-secondary institutions, their faculty, staff and learners.

Matt Zeleny

Matt Zeleny Applied Research Technologist II, Technology Access Centre

CSWP, Engineering Graphics Technician

Matt handles most of the 3D scanning, reverse engineering, prototyping and CAD services at the Technology Access Centre.

A graduate from Camosun’s Engineering Graphics Technician program and a Certified Solidworks Professional, Matt’s work is primarily focused on digital design and mentorship in 3D software.

Matt also assists with many of the ongoing projects at the Centre through his experience in a wide range of 3D scanning technologies and processes, non-conventional silicone moulding, and utilization of 3D printed parts.
