Remote Work Support
Information Technology Services (ITS)
Updated: September 14, 2020
ITS has resources available to support continued planning and changes to the delivery of service at Camosun College in response to COVID-19, including working remotely.
For instructors: we're working closely with the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning (CETL) to support guidance around remote instruction.
For staff: we'll continue to work with the college community on how we can support possible remote work as a response to COVID-19.
Please note: While working remotely Camosun College is required by the Freedom of information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) to keep all personal information safe and secure.
This page will be updated regularly to ensure it has up to date resources and information.

ITS is working to complete additional documentation to support the college community. We will continue to update information and documentation as required. Please note: you will need to authenticate to review the information below.
Web Conferencing Tools
Blackboard Collaborate Ultra (BBCU) Web Conferencing
BBCU is a web-based conferencing system that is integrated with D2L or can be used as a stand-alone application. Instructors can use BBCU web conferencing to facilitate remote learning and online instruction. The Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning has developed a rich repository of documentation and training aides and supports faculty in their use of BBCU. BBCU is our primary tool for facilitating classroom instruction.
Microsoft Teams
Microsoft Teams, which is supported by ITS, can be used to facilitate remote meetings and live events between faculty and staff. Additionally, this tool can be used to facilitate meetings with students and external contacts who may be invited to the meeting.
Microsoft Teams should be considered as the primary tool for facilitating remote work meetings as we continue with our response to COVID-19.
Microsoft Teams Usage
The use of Microsoft Teams (and Blackboard Collaborate Ultra) must align with the Freedom of Information and Protection of Privacy Act (FIPPA) and Camosun's policies on Acceptable Technology Use and Protection of Privacy Policy.
Please be advised that Microsoft Teams’ chat, channel conversations, and channel names are currently stored in the United States*.
The following information should not be shared, in written form within Microsoft Teams unless there is a justifiable operational requirement that cannot be completed by using the Camosun email system:

* Regarding personal information, i.e., recorded information about an identifiable individual other than contact information, a Ministerial Order (No. M085) has been issued to allow for disclosure outside of Canada provided that it is intended to support operational needs of a public body, aligns with public health recommendations and requirements to minimize transmission of COVID-19, and that the disclosure is limited to the minimum amount reasonable for the performance of one’s duties.
