Cooking ABCs: A Second Helping New

For those who have completed “Cooking ABCs”, or for those with basic cooking skills. Learn hands-on cooking techniques in a relaxed, fun environment. Bring an apron, a 10” cook knife, a paring knife, and plastic containers to take home samples prepared in class.

Inspired by the Food Network Masters? Join us for a fun, hands-on week of cooking! Each day, students will prepare tasty lunches and snacks to be shared by the group. Emphasis is on teamwork, safety, and kitchen sanitation, as you learn cooking techniques used in the culinary arts! Tuition includes a daily lunch and snack.

Food & Beverage Industry

FOODSAFE Level I

Required for all food handlers employed in serving the public! Topics include food handling, personal hygiene, receiving and storing food safely, dishwashing methods, and food storage methods. Participants successfully completing receive a certificate recognized by the BC Hotel/ Restaurant Association and employers throughout the Province. Tuition includes exam and workbook. Please register by deadline noted below so you can receive pre-reading materials!

Serving It Right (Server) Certificate

A Serving It Right certificate is required for waiters, bartenders and anyone serving alcohol to the public. In this Hospitality Industry Education Advisory Committee (HIEAC) approved course, you will learn your legal responsibilities, LCB regulations, and how to duly care for patrons. (Note: a special “Licensee” license is also required for special events, contact your local LCB branch). Prerequisite: Participants must be 19 years of age or older. Exam and certification is included in tuition fee. Special discount: your tuition will be reduced by $15 if also registering to take Bartending Training.

Bartender Training

Bartending is a job unlike any other. In this hands-on course, based on standards set by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council, you will gain the skills and knowledge you will need to enter the world of bartending. Topics include: setting up the bar, stocking and bar management, terminology, LCB rules and your responsibilities, and customer service. Prerequisite: students must be 19 years of age or older and have completed Serving It Right (Server) training prior to course start. Textbooks, approximately $100, available at Camosun’s Interurban Bookstore. No class on Saturday May 22 due to holiday for 2010Q3 COOK 667V 001.
