Cooking ABCs

New to cooking? Learn traditional cooking techniques in this fun course as we prepare a variety of tasty dishes. Taught in Camosun's Culinary Arts facilities, students are asked to bring a 10" chef's knife, a paring knife, an apron, and plastic containers to take home the samples we make each session. Class size is limited and early registration is recommended!

Thanksgiving Dinner New

Cooking for Thanksgiving needn't be a nightmare! Learn a chef's secrets to preparing a Thanksgiving dinner in this one-day course. From appetizer to the perfect turkey, we'll show you stress-free ways to prepare delicious dishes including golden-glazed turkey, mouth-watering cranberry stuffing and, irresistible pumpkin pie. Bring an apron and a small paring knife. We will eat together what we prepare at the end of the day. (bring a plastic container for leftovers).

Food & Beverage Industry

FOODSAFE Level I

Required for all food handlers employed in serving the public! Topics include food handling, personal hygiene, receiving and storing food safely, dishwashing methods, and food storage methods. Participants successfully completing receive a certificate recognized by the BC Hotel/ Restaurant Association and employers throughout the Province. Tuition includes exam and workbook. Please register by deadline noted below so you can receive pre-reading materials!

Serving It Right (Server) Certificate

A Serving It Right certificate is required for waiters, bartenders and anyone serving alcohol to the public. In this Hospitality Industry Education Advisory Committee (HIEAC) approved course, you will learn your legal responsibilities, LCB regulations, and how to duly care for patrons. (Note: a special "Licensee" license is also required for special events, contact your local LCB branch). Prerequisite: Participants must be 19 years of age or older. Exam and certification is included in tuition fee.

Bartender Training

Bartending is a job unlike any other. In this hands-on course, based on standards set by the Canadian Tourism Human Resource Council, you will gain the skills and knowledge you will need to enter the world of bartending. Topics include: setting up the bar, stocking and bar management, terminology, LCB rules and your responsibilities, and customer service. Prerequisite: Serve it Right (Server) certificate; must be 19 years of age by course start. Please bring textbooks to the first class (available at the Interurban Bookstore).
