Learn more about AutoCAD and how computer aided design is used to produce professional drawings and plans. Meet the instructor who will provide an overview of the AutoCAD courses offered at Camosun; steps to complete Camosun's AutoCAD Graphics Certificate Program; and how Camosun can assist you to obtain industry certification. Includes a tour of the AutoCAD lab. This session is free, but please preregister.
This hands-on course is recommended for all students going on to take AutoCAD or other drafting courses. Topics include: math principles; geometry, blueprint reading; and basic drafting concepts. Class is taught in both manual drafting lab and in the computer lab. Prerequisite: experience with file management using Windows or completion of "File Management", BSCM 504V. Course materials are included in tuition.
AutoCAD is a computer aided design program used in fields such as Engineering, Carpentry, Interior Design and more. Learn to create, print and plot drawings using the latest version of AutoCAD. Emphasis is on using the software tools and understanding the concepts and techniques you need to use and be productive with AutoCAD. PREREQUISITES: Experience with drafting and blueprint reading and good math/geometry skills. Completion of Pre-entry, TTCD 636V, is recommended. Experience with Windows file management is required. Course materials and lab fees are included in tuition. No class on Apr. 25 & May 23 due to holiday.
Increase your productivity with AutoCAD! This hands-on course concentrates on intermediate to advanced AutoCAD concepts and commands. Topics include: productivity techniques; advanced object types; creating and extracting block attribute information, external references; collaboration and drawing tools; menu customization; and an introduction to 3D modeling. Prerequisite: AutoCAD Level I or permission of Program Coordinator. Course material and lab fees included in tuition.
Explore AutoCAD's 3D modeling and visualization capabilities as you learn to create three dimensional wireframe, surface and ACIS solid models to visualize and communicate designs. Topics include basic 3D concepts; creating surfaces; solid modeling; and manipulating and working with drawings and 3D objects. Prerequisite: AutoCAD Level I or equivalent proficiency with AutoCAD (Level II is also required for Camosun Certificate Program)
The Completion Project is the final course in the AutoCAD Certificate Program and requires the student to demonstrate and apply practical AutoCAD skills. Working with your assigned instructor, you will select a completion project that utilizes skills developed in previous courses, then submit a completion project for final evaluation. Students are encouraged to undertake projects that relate to their work environment. Access to AutoCAD labs is provided if required. While self-paced, your project must be completed within two terms (six months) of starting your assignment.
Prerequisites: Students must have successfully completed AutoCAD Level 1 (TTCD 512V), Level 2 (TTCD 542V), and AutoCAD 3D (TTCD 548V).

Learn the skills you need to create basic yet functional, well designed websites in this dynamic, instructor-led 120 hour program. As an adult learner, you want to apply your skills to actual websites, not just classroom assignments. Therefore, you will choose a business or organization (real or fictious) and build a live website throughout the program that demonstrates all of the skills taught. From start to finish, you will focus on the most critical elements of web design and development that are the least likely to change over time. Standards matter. Preserve the integrity of ownership and the print quality of your documents by using Acrobat. Prevent duplication or printing. Convert multiple formats, such as Excel, Word, Graphics and web pages into one PDF file. Include sound and/or video in the file. Extract graphics from your PDF to be utilized in other files. Maximize your use of Acrobat’s features including the organizer, bookmarks, links, articles and much more. Prerequisite: Word Level 1 or equivalent skills plus strong file management skills.
Reduce paper consumption and tedious filing by learning to create simple, interactive forms. These forms can be placed on your web site for easy access and/or emailed directly to/from recipients and compiled into your database. This data can then be manipulated and analyzed for statistical information. There is no back-end programming involved! You will create basic forms in Acrobat then work in LiveCycle Designer to develop forms from scratch with some subform creation and use of simple javascripts. Do you need to prove your typing speed to a potential employer or for entry into a program? You will be given three, five-minute timings with warm-up and practice time included. Does "hunt and peck" best describe your typing style? Are you frustrated with your computer because of the keyboard? By the end of this course you will be able to touch-type with the alphabetic keys and some symbols. Typing speed at completion varies with individuals (approx. 20 wpm for beginners). Nearly every job that involves a computer requires skills in Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, Access or PowerPoint software. In this hands-on, fast paced program you will learn a wide variety of ways to use MS-Office Professional software to automate your work, integrate your files and produce professional quality documents. By the end of this 175-hour, part-time program you will have developed a comprehensive portfolio that demonstrates your software skills. It is not necessary to commit to the entire certificate program prior to registering for individual courses. Choose from evening or daytime classes. DragonSpeak is a miraculous tool for converting speech to text and is compatible with Microsoft Word, Outlook, and Excel. However, many new users give up in frustration before they get to enjoy smooth, easy voice-to-text-recognition. Your Dragon can be tamed! You will learn to speak consistently, train your software effectively, enter and edit text, troubleshoot common problems and understand how Dragon interacts with your own laptop. You will also work towards making the cognitive shift needed to compose using your voice, not your hands. When used optimally, DragonSpeak enables you to type much faster using your voice than hand typing! Whether you are managing a household or running a small business, Excel will help you automate your books using everyday math. Includes basic spreadsheet techniques, how to enter, analyze, and calculate data, use simple formulas, create graphs and add formatting. Prerequisite: Strong file management skills.
Realistic examples will be used to demonstrate ways to build on your basic knowledge of Excel to increase your productivity.
