Camosun offers leadership course for First Nations students Thu, 5 Jan 2012
Camosun College, North Island College and Vancouver Island University are each offering a Leadership and Capacity Building program for eligible First Nations students in their respective communities starting this winter. Each of the three institutions participating in this delivery has strong working relationships with First Nation communities in their area, and received commitments to recruit, select, and support the training program participants before creating the program. The program is tuition-free to eligible participants and sponsored by the Canada-British Columbia Labour Market Agreement. Camosun is offering the course through its Employment Skills Access (ESA) program. (more...)

Brie Ansell began her career as a finishing carpenter and although she enjoyed the work, after a few years she began to recognize the physical toll the work took on her body. Camosun Medical Laboratory seats available exclusively for Nanaimo, Comox and Campbell River area students23 Jun 2011
This September, Camosun College has three seats exclusively reserved for first-come, first-qualified applicants from up-Island: one seat for the Nanaimo area; one from the Comox Valley and one from the Campbell River area. In February 2011, Camosun student, Bryan Kelly, volunteered to be the producer of the DVD: "A Rhythm and Blues Review." The Applied Communication (ACP) project was to create a dynamic marketing tool for the Vic High Rhythm and Blues band. Fitting in your own skin—that's what trades is about17 May 2011
When apprenticeship welder Mila Puharich talks about her trade, she draws you deep into the physicality of her work, using language that stimulates the senses with vivid descriptions. As she speaks, you can actually hear the snap of the flint and the roar of the cutting torch; feel the heat of the flame and the gut-pounding vibration of metal against anvil; smell the acrid stench of an electric arc to metal. More than anything though, you get the sense that welding is as much a calling for Puharich as it is a career choice. (more...)

At Camosun College, we're on our way to reducing our greenhouse gas emissions by 1000 tonnes a year by 2012, beating the target of 200 tonnes we set for ourselves at the start of our Energy Management project in 2007. We're ahead of schedule by working with BC Hydro and the provincial government to measure and optimize energy usage on campus, as well as figure out where we can use the latest green technologies to reduce our energy consumption and make our community more sustainable. Students interested in working for the BC government researched employment insights directly from ten "living books" – actual BC government employers from a variety of ministries. The employers allowed Camosun students to borrow them for 20 minute-sessions, where they could have a private conversation about real-life work experience and paths to employment with the BC government. Board of Governors approves $104M balanced budget08 Mar 2011
The college’s Board of Governors approved a balanced budget for fiscal 2011-2012 at its regular monthly meeting last night. Speaking to the Board of Governors, Chair Lynda Farmer said this year’s budget presented increasing challenges for the college. “The combined effect of three years of flat funding from government has the potential to seriously impact Camosun’s programs, students and our community. We are hopeful that government will respond by renewing their commitment to post-secondary education in British Columbia,” she concluded. (more...)
