Camosun College business students bring home medals

A team of business students from Camosun College came home with medals after participating in the 22nd Annual British Columbia Business Simulation Competition in Kelowna, BC March 25-27. Okanagan College’s School of Business hosted the event.

The spirit was collegial and the rivalry resolute when student teams took centre stage to pit business skills against one another and put learning into competitive practice.
Camosun business students Kyle Blakeney, Ellen Dragushan, Henri Mornard and Monita Sidhu created a winning business strategy called Affinity Air that saw the team win two silver and three bronze medals collectively.
In the categories of Top Team and Best Communications, the Camosun foursome was awarded team bronze medals.
Kyle Blakeney took an individual silver in Top Operations and a bronze in Top CEO for leading the Affinity Air team, and Ellen Dragushan was awarded silver in the Top Finance category.

"The BC Business Simulation Competition was a great way to take what I learned in class and apply it in practical ways," says Dragushan. "It's a safe environment in which to learn from your mistakes. The judges are more like mentors who want to see students succeed. I'll definitely apply what I learned to my education and career goals."
The BC Business Simulation Competition was initiated in 1988 by the BC Ministry of Advanced Education, and is open to both two-year and four-year post-secondary institutions. The competition uses simulated business cases to test and strengthen students' expertise. The competition starts online, and then students are held accountable for strategies, decisions and implementation in a real-time three-day playoff.
Camosun business faculty members, Catherine Mack and Halinka Szwender, co-coached the Camosun team. "The students never fail to impress," says Szwender."We applaud this year's team for their professionalism and commitment to this process which demands collaboration and the ability to think on their feet in a highly competitive environment."
