Camosun expects 3,000 at biggest-ever Open House

April 27, 2010

Camosun College is hosting its annual Open House, 8:30am-3pm, Thursday, April 29 at Interurban campus. Camosun will showcase more than 150 career programs, plus academic options spanning from upgrading courses to university degrees.

From as far north as Port Hardy, thirty different high schools and middle schools have signed up to bring 2,500 students to the campus to explore post-secondary and career options. In addition, Open House provides a great one-stop overview for adults who are ready for a career change and thinking it might be time to go back to school. Parents of high school students are also encouraged to drop by to find out what Camosun offers.

Visitors will be invited to participate in more than 100 hands-on activities as part of the TELUS Scavenger Hunt. “Camosun is a big believer in hands-on learning,” says Val Mieras, Open House coordinator. “How can you know if you’re good at something until you get a chance to try it? Open House helps young people discover their interests and talents by letting them participate in all sorts of career-related activities.”

Highlights of the day include:

The public is welcome to attend, and parking at Interurban campus is free for the day.

“Our visitors will have so much fun at Open House,” says Mieras, “they won’t even realize they’re learning at the same time.”
