Student Co-op Experiences in the UK 2009Blogs from Britain all in a day's work

September 1, 2009

Camosun’s hotel and restaurant management (HRM) students are serving the world this summer.

Currently 32 HRM students are working through Camosun’s two-year diploma program. Working is the operative word as every one of them experiences hospitality management and operations first-hand as part of mandatory co-operative education work terms.

All 32 students have challenging, rewarding co-op jobs this summer. Five students chose placements that took them around the world, from England to Hong Kong.

Dawn Sheldon and Michael Barbour not only went to England, they’re sharing their experiences via blogs on the Camosun HRM webpage.

Work and travel experiences are chronicled, guest service practices honed and pictures posted - check out the Ferrari Enzo on Barbour’s second week at the prestigious Lanesborough Hotel in the Knightsbridge area of London.

Lee Aitchison is the program chair of Hospitality and Tourism programs at Camosun. “Graduates of Camosun’s HRM program work all over the world,” says Aitchison. “Blogs like Dawn and Michael’s take us into the challenges and exciting opportunities of current students learning on-the-job right now. It’s a window on the world, from a student’s perspective.”
