The curriculum development team helps faculty create and revise courses and programs to ensure the best student learning experience. We guide instructors through the program review and renewal process, resulting in purposeful and positive change. We also offer just-in-time curriculum consultation and support.
Whether designing a course or a program of studies, there are number of things that must be considered to create meaningful learning experiences. Curriculum development moves beyond a content-centred approach to one that considers the relationship between the course/program learning outcomes, assessment of those outcomes, and the activities and opportunities designed to facilitate student learning.
Program review and renewal
The program review and renewal process is faculty-driven and is used to review and renew program or discipline curriculum, practices and services in the context of how well they support and contribute to student learning. The review process is meaningful, reasonable in scope, and contributes to purposeful and positive change.
A regular review helps answer the questions:
- Are students learning what they need to learn for today’s world within the context of their program or discipline?
- Are we using the most effective teaching, learning, and assessment strategies to promote student learning in relation to the identified program outcomes?
- Do program or discipline learning opportunities meet current and future student, community and industry needs?
