What happens to my ideas/suggestions?
We’ve had many great suggestions around sustainability on campus and we’d like to share with you some of the results:
- Reminder stickers to turn lights off – over the next few weeks you’ll notice ‘turn-it-off stickers next to light switches across both campuses – let’s hope this helps to remind ‘last one out turns it off’.
- Turn off monitors and computers when not in use – we’ve started and the message is out there that every little bit counts.
- Start an Energy Champion program –underway and we’re looking for more to sign up to help us reach our goals – we can’t do it without you!
- Start a newsletter– we’ve started these web pages as the primary information source and will continue to generate awareness through the Intranet, Camnews, Nexus, newsletters and other campaigns.
- ITS reminder messaging on computers – we are working with Computing Services – look out for this in the future.
- Have a way to deal with old CFL light bulbs - 1 disposal depot on each campus planned for the future.
- Educate students - we’re working closely with the Camosun Students for Environmental Awareness (CSEA) to support us and help educate our students. The Green Initiatives Challenge Winner, Pomme Arros, is also working closely with our Awareness Coordinator in several different areas.
- Produce small & attractive buttons to support the energy management program – hundreds of ‘I’m Turned Off!’ buttons are proudly being worn, pinned to bags and bulletin boards by our faculty, staff and students – if you’d like one, please let us know!
- Reduce the no. of lights in some rooms where there is too many – our energy audit at Interurban identified these types of savings and changes are being made. The planned Lansdowne energy audit will also identify these types of savings.
- Heat recovery from drainage – this will be part of our Lansdowne Energy Study.
- Insulate walls & ceilings of Jack White & JD buildings – this has already been done.
- Turn down hot water temperatures – this had been done in areas where the water was deemed to be too hot.
