Your feedback sought on draft Education Plan
The most recent draft of the 2010-2011 Education Plan is now ready for your review and comments (pdf 1.5MB). We hope you will find it inspiring—the process of gathering your input, reviewing and discussing the many ideas that came forward, and getting to this stage has been inspiring for us. Thank you!
Approximately 200 individuals attended 15 facilitated sessions and the input gathered (over 100 pages of notes, along with a number of individual written submissions, were themed, discussed in depth and crafted into this draft document. You will see many of your suggestions and ideas embodied in the plan, while other suggestions will either be reported separately and sent to the appropriate area for consideration or help to inform our next round of strategic planning that will likely begin in late 2010.
We look forward to your feedback on the draft, and to incorporating your additions and changes prior to forwarding the document to the Board of Governors in March and adoption. Comments can be sent to educationplan@camosun.bc.ca by Thursday, February 4. You may also want to attend one of the open sessions to hear more about the plan and provide your input. Sessions are scheduled for:
- Tuesday, February 2, 3:30 – 4:30, Young 216, Lansdowne campus
- Wednesday, February 3, noon – 1pm, Campus Centre 124, Interurban campus
Thank you.

Education Plan draft (pdf 1.5MB)
Thank you to everyone who has provided input through the consultation sessions and individual input. The information obtained provided a reinforcement of the college’s strengths and many potential ideas in developing our strategic educational practices for the next few years. Some of the feedback provided does not directly fit the mandate of the Education Plan. However, it is valuable and will be forwarded to the appropriate senior manager responsible.
The Steering Committee has reviewed the input and summary, and the writing team is now developing theme statements based on the following headings: Vision; Principles; Populations; New Programming; Learning and Educational Support. The goal is to have a draft document posted for review by the college community the end of November or early December.
If you have any questions about this process, please email educationplan@camosun.bc.ca.

Initial input into the development of the Education Plan is drawing to a close. To not miss your opportunity to provide input, please refer to the Consultation Questions and submit your thoughts via email to educationplan@camosun.bc.ca by October 14, 2009. The Coordinating Committee of the Education Plan Steering Committee will be reviewing and considering all of the input and will draft a document which will be reviewed by the Education Plan Steering Committee and the Education Management Team. The college community will be notified when the draft document is available for review in November.
Thank you to those that have already provided input through consultation sessions and individual input.
The college has embarked on the development of an Education Plan, and is seeking input from the college community. Structured within the scope of the college’s current Strategic Plan, the Education Plan will set the educational direction of the institution. The intent is to have the plan completed by the end of 2009, in time to be considered for resourcing through the budget development for 2010/11 fiscal year.
Background
The post-secondary sector is experiencing extensive changes. Beside the severe economic downturn which will have a lasting affect, the recent designation of new teaching universities will have an affect on BC Colleges. As the new universities turn their attention to becoming more university-like with a greater focus on degrees, their allocation of resources away from college-type of programming, will create new opportunities for existing Colleges. The new universities, being more flexible and responsive than the traditional universities, will create greater opportunities for partnerships for laddering and transfer of college credentials. The question is how we can take advantage of new changing environment in the BC post-secondary system. Continue reading...
Process lead
Baldev Pooni, the Vice President of Education & Student Services is leading the process, under the sponsorship of the President, Kathryn Laurin. The Project charter outlines the deliverables for the project. Guidance is also being provided by the Education Plan steering committee.
