Applications are now open for Grade 12 students

Posted Thu, 24 Nov 2011

Grade 12 students are welcome to apply to Camosun anytime between September 15 and February 28. By applying within this time-period, they can be included in our "provisional admission" process.

Provisional admission was created especially to help BC/Yukon high school students get into Camosun's programs without lengthy waits. It allows Camosun to offer Fall seats to grade 12 students based on their application date, even though they haven't yet completed the admission requirements.

The provisional admission is conditional upon a review of the student's interim grades that we receive from the Ministry of Education in May, and then another review of the year-end grades. As long as Enrolment Services sees that the student has completed or is enrolled in the required course(s) with at least the specified minimum grade, the applicant will retain their place on the program applicant list. Because the May interim review looks at courses in progress as well as courses completed, the student is not disadvantaged by taking a required course in their second semester.

Keep in mind, however, that Camosun admits qualified applicants on a first-come first-served basis, and for some of the smaller-intake programs (such as Visual Arts), interested students are wise to apply early before the program applicant list exceeds the number of seats available. And of Camosun's 160+ programs, only a very few are full for Fall 2012 already (Nursing is one example).

But in most cases, if a grade 12 student applies in the Fall of 2011, and ensures they have the courses and grades they need for the interim and year-end reports, they've got an excellent chance of becoming Camosun students in the Fall of 2012.
