Kathryn Laurin is the fifth president of Camosun College. The president leads the executive team at Camosun College, consisting of the following divisions: administration, education and student services, strategic development, and human resources.

Kathryn has led Camosun College as its President since September 2009. With a 25-year career as a professor, senior academic administrator, and professional musician, she brings a wealth of experience and ability to the position.

Prior to moving to Victoria to assume her role at Camosun, Kathryn served for three years as President and Vice Chancellor of Mount Saint Vincent University in Halifax. In addition, she held a professorship in the University’s Faculty of Education. Before relocating to Halifax, she served as Acting Vice-President Administration at the University of Regina, assuming that position following a five-year term as Dean of the Faculty of Fine Arts, and five years as Chair of the Department of Music.

Kathryn holds a Bachelor of Music with Distinction from McGill University, and a Master of Music with Distinction in Choral Conducting from Indiana University. She subsequently attended the Hochschule fur Müsik in Frankfurt, Germany. While serving in administrative positions, she continued to teach, perform and volunteer in the arts community, working with numerous music and fine arts organizations.

Kathryn was a recipient of the Regina YWCA Women of Distinction Award for Arts and Culture in 2001, and in 2009 was named one of Atlantic Business Magazine’s Top 50 CEOs. Her community involvement included serving as Chair of the Post-Secondary Division of the United Way of Halifax, and sitting as a member of the Heart Truth Council (a division of the National Heart and Stroke Foundation), and as a member of the Boards of the Scotia Festival, the Norman MacKenzie Art Gallery, and the Saskatchewan Film Board.

Kathryn is delighted to be at Camosun, one of Canada’s premier colleges, working with the Camosun community to deliver an outstanding educational experience for every learner.
