Avery Graham Alumna
Part of the new generation of business leader.
Avery Graham hopes to inspire other young women to succeed in traditionally male-dominated businesses. So far, she has proved extremely inspirational.
Since graduating with a Bachelor of Business Administration, Avery has taken on the role of Business Manager for her family’s Mobil 1 Lube Express outlet in Duncan. Under her leadership, in just six months, the business was nominated for a Duncan-Cowichan Chamber of Commerce Black Tie Award for exceptional customer service. “The knowledge I gained at Camosun has enabled me to be where I am today. I couldn't run a business without knowing the foundations,” says Avery.
Avery hasn’t stopped there. This fall she took on the renovation, opening and management of a new outlet in Port Moody. In her characteristically humble way, Avery says, “Once you can run one, you can run many.”
While attending Camosun, Avery consistently remained on the Dean’s Honour Roll and was chosen for the Executive Network Inc–Donald Family Leadership Award for her strong leadership abilities. She also competed at the Western Canadian International Business Competition against university and college students from across western Canada, and personally won a bronze medal for marketing strategy. “This was definitely a highlight along my degree path.”
In the spring of 2013, Avery was presented with Camosun’s Promising Alumni award. The award is given annually to recent graduates who bring inspiration to other alumni and current Camosun students. Avery continues to be an active Camosun alumni and supporter.
As for her advice to other young business women, Avery says, “The sky is really the limit. You might not get your dream job right out of college, but hard work really does pay off.”
You can do it too!
The Bachelor of Business Administration, Marketing is one of Camosun’s first four-year degree programs. It provides a depth of understanding of marketing management skills and techniques. Strategic management and planning, and a focus on directing the marketing and communication process are also studied. Graduates have the opportunity to pursue graduate studies at Royal Roads University (MBA), the University of Victoria (Masters in Global Studies), and Vancouver Island University (MBA in International Business), as well as at other post-secondary institutions across Canada and internationally.
