About Deidre

Deidre joined the Centre for Excellence in Teaching and Learning at Camosun in 2017. Having left Canada in 1993 to teach English in Japan ‘for a year’ armed with a bachelor’s degree and a backpack, Deidre returned to Canada 23 years later with a husband, two children, a shipping container, an MA, and a partially-completed PhD. Her journey from Japan took her to England, Turkey, and finally the United Arab Emirates. Her work in the UAE spanned the higher education and K-12 sectors, and included projects in Malaysia, Nigeria, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Turkey, England, and Egypt.

In the context of her curriculum development and renewal work, Deidre is interested in how assessment practices can inform and enhance student learning, as well as exploring opportunities for active student partnership in teaching and learning in higher education.
