Michele Mundy, Instructor My Aboriginal roots stem from the north end of Vancouver Island—the Kwakwaka'wakw territory, on my mother’s side of the family. I am a member of the 'Namgis First Nation, but have ties to five of the tribes of the Kwakwaka'wakw territory: Kingcome Inlet, Turnour Island, Village Island, Fort Rupert, and Alert Bay. I am also part Scottish on my father’s side. I have been a visitor on Coast Salish territory for over 30 years and thank the Coast Salish people for allowing us to live and learn on their territory. It is amazing that I have returned to Camosun College. This is where I began my educational journey in the early 90's starting with upgrading courses and then completing a Business Administration diploma. I worked in business for a few years and loved it. However, my path eventually took me down a different road and I returned to school in 1999. I received my BA in Child and Youth Care from Malaspina (now University of Vancouver Island), then went on to complete an MA in Conflict Analysis and Management (Communities and Schools) through Royal Roads University. My life has definitely come full circle. I feel truly honored to come back to work at Camosun College. I am also thankful to be involved in the reciprocal learning that takes place with students, staff, and our community elders who are graciously involved in our programs. Gilakas'la (thank you) |
