Aboriginal Education Awards
All Aboriginal Education & Community Connections (AECC) awards have the following requirements:
- Aboriginal (First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or Native American) ancestry
- GPA of 2.5 or equivalent (exception–Anthany Dawson Award)
- Completed application form, including all additional criteria
There are some important things to think about when you are getting ready to apply for an Aboriginal Award.

Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW)—Saanich Peninsula Award for First Nations Women
We raise our hands to the members of the Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) of the Saanich Peninsula Branch who provide this gift annually.
Criteria
- Available to female First Nations students who are enrolled in a degree program, or university transfer or a professional studies program.
- Enrolled in the final year before graduating with a degree or transferring to university
- Self-written letter outlining student's reason for applying and education and employment goals
- Letter from community member or instructor attesting to the student's commitment to her studies and career goal
- Minimum 2.5 GPA or 3.5 GPA in the most recent semester
- Preference to women of the WSANEC Nation or other First Nations women living on the Saanich peninsula
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in May
- Financial need taken into consideration

Award amount: $1000
First Unitarian Church of Victoria Fund for Aboriginal Students
We raise our hands to the First Unitarian Church of victoria who provide this gift annually.
Criteria
- Available to students who have overcome great obstacles in order to attend college
- Self-written letter outlining how student is changing his or her life for the better and how she or he is going to use education to keep moving toward the better
- Letter of reference from teacher or community member attesting to the student's life changes and commitment to education
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in May
- Financial need given consideration

Award amount: $500
In the Spirit of Laughter Award
We raise our hands to Ms Kathleen Sun who provides this gift annually.
Criteria
- Available to Aboriginal students in Indigenous studies programs who contribute good spirit and community building in their education
- Self-written letter outlining how the student contributes to community spirit both inside and outside the classroom
- Letter of reference from a community leader or instructor
- Minimum 2.0 GPA
- Preference to single parents but open to all students who are eligible according to the above criteria
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in May
- Financial need given strong consideration

WSΆNEC’ School Board (formerly Saanich Indian School Board) Award
We raise our hands to theWS'ANEC' School Board (formerly Saanich Indian School Board) and Saanich Adult Education Centre (SAEC) who provide this gift annually.
Criteria
- Available to students who are funded by the WS'ANEC' School Board
- Self-written letter outlining student's commitment to education and plans to serve the Saanich community following graduation
- Letter of reference from a WS'ANEC' community member talking about the student's dedication to community
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in May
- Financial need taken into consideration

Songhees Nation Award
We raise our hands to the late Dorothy Price who left a very generous gift of ongoing support for Aboriginal students at Camosun College.
Criteria
- Available to students who are funded by the Songhees Nation
- Self-written letter outlining student's commitment to education and plans to serve the Songhees community following graduation
- Letter of reference from a Songhees community member talking about the student's dedication to community
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in May
- Financial need given some consideration

Award amount: $500
Tsa Qwa Supp Award for Nuu-chah-nulth Students
We raise our hands to the late Art Thompson (Tsa Qwa Supp) who provided this ongoing gift.
Criteria
- Available to students who are descendents of one of the 15 Nuu-chah-nulth tribes, Pacheedaht, or Makah Nations
- Self-written letter outlining student's commitment to the Nuu-chah-nulth people and to education
- letter of reference from a community member attesting to the student's qualities. The letter should not be from an immediate relative
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in May
- Grades given strong consideration
- Financial need given some consideration

Award amount: $500-$700
University of Victoria, Office of Indigenous Affairs Award
We raise our hands to the University of Victoria, Office of Indigenous Affairs, particularly director Fran Hunt-Jinnouchi, for providing this gift annually.
Criteria
- Available to Aboriginal students in the Indigenous Studies program who are transferring to the University of Victoria
- Proof of acceptance or conditional acceptance into the University of Victoria
- 500-700 word essay describing how the work that results from their education will make a difference to their own growth, and the well-being of their family and community
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in May
- Grades given strong consideration
- Financial need given some consideration

The Camosun College Foundation administers many awards available to all students at the college.
