Aboriginal Education Awards
All Aboriginal Education & Community Connections (AECC) awards have the following requirements:
- Aboriginal (First Nations, Métis, Inuit, or Native American) ancestry
- GPA of 2.5 or equivalent (exception–Anthany Dawson Award)
- Completed application form, including all additional criteria
There are some important things to think about when you are getting ready to apply for an Aboriginal Award.

The Allen and Loreen Vandekerkhove Family Foundation Bursary for Aboriginal Health & Human Services Students
We raise our hands to the Allen and Loreen Vandekerkhove Family Foundation which arranged this ongoing award.
Criteria
- Available to Health or Human Services students. Priority given to students who entered Camosun College through the Aboriginal Limited Priority Admissions process
- Self-written letter outlining student's goals and dreams about working with Aboriginal people in a health or human servies-related field
- Letter of reference from a teacher or community person talking about the student's dedication to education and community wellness
- Submit proof of grades prior to entering Camosun
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in November
- Financial need taken into consideration

Award amount: $600–$700
Anthany Dawson Justice Award—NEW
This award has been established in the memory of Kwakwa Ka'wakw artist, Anthany Dawson, who died, tragically, in 1999. More information...
Criteria
- Available to students in programs related to justice (see suggestions)
- One-page letter of introduction that includes personal background, family origin, and career and academic profile and goals
- Name and contact information of an Elder or Indigenous community leader for a verbal reference
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in November
- Financial need not a consideration. Open to all Aboriginal students who meet other criteria

Canadian Diabetes Association Jean Mosely Fund—NEW
We raise our hands to the Canadian Diabetes Association who provided this award in the memory of Jean Mosely.
Criteria
- Available to students with diabetes
- Self-written letter outlining student's education and career goals
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in November
- Financial need strongly taken into consideration

Award amount: $500
Canadian Federation of University Women (CFUW) Victoria Centennial Endowment Fund—NEW
We raise our hands to the Canadian Federation of University Women, Victoria, who established this award for a single mother or grandmother who is in the first year of the Indigenous Business Leadership program.
Criteria
- Available to a First Nations woman entering the Indigenous Business Leadership (IBL) program
- Self-written letter outlining career goals
- Letter of reference from a community member, former teacher, or employer attesting to the applicant’s commitment to her education
- Priority given to single mother or grandmother, but if no such candidate can be found, the award can go to a non-parenting female in the first year of IBL.
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in November
- Financial need strongly taken into consideration

M'Akola Housing Society Award
We raise our hands to M'Akola Housing Society, and former executive director, Linda Ross, who arranged this award.
Criteria
- Available to off-reserve students who are committed to their education
- Self-written letter outlining student's education and career goals
- Letter of reference from a teacher or community member talking about the student's commitment to education
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in November
- Financial need strongly taken into consideration

Rimer Family Aboriginal Trades Bursary
We raise our hands to the Rimer family for their generosity in providing this gift.
Criteria
- Available toAboriginal students in Trades programs
- Self-written letter outlining student's interest in working in trades
- Letter of reference from a teacher or community talking about the student's commitment to his or her studies
- Agreement to attend an awards ceremony in November
- Financial need strongly taken into consideration

The Camosun College Foundation administers many awards available to all students at the college.
